A team of determined staff members from the Ulster Farmers’ Union are swapping office desks for running shoes as they prepare to take on the Belfast City Marathon Team Relay, all in aid of the charity Rural Support.
Representing departments across the organisation, the UFU team will tackle the 26.2-mile challenge on Sunday 2nd May.
Corporate services manager John Weir will set the pace as he takes on the opening leg from Stormont, handing over to Peatlands Officer Stephanie Clokey followed by Policy Assistant Lawrence Whyte. Parliamentary Officer Alexander Kinnear will take on the penultimate leg with Communications Officer Katherine McIldowney crossing the finish line in Ormeau Park.
Rural Support has been selected as UFU President William Irvine’s chosen charity, with the president praising staff for backing a cause that delivers vital support to farming and rural families across Northern Ireland., “Rural Support provides a lifeline for many farming families, offering practical and emotional help during difficult times. I am incredibly proud of the UFU staff who have volunteered to take part in the marathon relay. Their willingness to take on this challenge and put the miles in, in their own time shows the strong sense of community within the UFU and the wider agricultural sector.”
