The Ulster Farmers’ Union has responded to the consultation on the closure of the Northern Ireland Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme. Within its response, the UFU has stressed the importance of treating farmers, who engaged with the scheme in good faith, fairly.

Commenting UFU deputy president John McLenaghan said, “We cautiously welcome the proposals which aim to provide a fair solution to a long-standing issue, and have submitted constructive suggestions surrounding compliance, appeals and other matters, to further strengthen the proposals for scheme closure.

“Farmers engaged in the RHI scheme in good faith and were put at the middle of this political debate for years. It is now vital that they are treated correctly and fairly.

“We will continue to engage with DfE, Committee for the Economy and other stakeholders to achieve a fair outcome on the closure of the Non-Domestic RHI Scheme.”
