With the £1.6 million support scheme due to close at midnight on Tuesday 21 February, the Ulster Farmers’ Union is urging eligible producers who received a letter from DAERA to submit their application as soon as possible.
The funding is to help cover over the financial losses pig producers have endured over the past number of months due to market volatility and soaring input costs. The UFU lobbied continuously to get this support secured and although it will not be enough to cover all the losses incurred by pig producers, it will help with cashflow supporting both family farms and the Northern Ireland pork industry.
