The staff from the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) successfully completed the Belfast City Marathon, finishing in a time of 3 hours and 59 minutes while raising vital funds for Rural Support.

Taking part in the event were Kate McIldowney, Steph Clokey, Leah Moffitt, Alexander Kinnear and Lawrence Whyte (pictured), who came together to support the charity, which provides a lifeline to farmers and rural families across Northern Ireland, the team has raised £1,655, with the donation link remaining open for those who wish to contribute further.

Reflecting on the day, the team described the atmosphere as outstanding, with Belfast’s streets lined with supporters offering encouragement throughout the course. The strong sense of community and support from the public provided a welcome boost to all those taking part.

The initiative highlights former UFU President William Irvines commitment to supporting Rural Support and raising awareness of the challenges facing the agricultural community.

William Irvine congratulated the team, “I am extremely proud of the team for their commitment and determination in completing the marathon and raising funds for such an important cause. Rural Support provides an essential service to our farming community, offering both practical and emotional support to those who need it most.

“At a time when many farmers are facing significant pressures, the work of Rural Support has never been more important. The funds raised will go directly towards ensuring that this vital service continues to be available across our rural areas.”

The UFU said the effort reflects the strong sense of solidarity within the organisation and the wider farming community, with members continuing to support initiatives that make a meaningful difference on the ground.
