The Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) supported the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) public-facing campaign, Back British Farming Day on Wednesday 13 September alongside NFU Scotland and NFU Cymru at the House of Commons, Westminster.

The Back British Farming Day campaign focused on helping to drive support for locally produced food and the farming sector by encouraging consumers to purchase homegrown produce. The initiative shines a spotlight on farmers who produce nutritious food to some of the highest animal health and welfare standards, showcases the many ways famers look after our iconic green landscape and how agriculture helps support the economy through employment, tourism and supporting local communities.

UFU deputy president John McLenaghan and parliamentary officer Alexander Kinnear, met Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and spoke with Shadow Secretary of State Hilary Benn MP. The UFU representatives highlighted the importance of the agri-food industry to the Northern Ireland economy and the challenges we face.

Mr Kinnear also spoke to the House of Lord’s Subcommittee on the Windsor framework.
