UFU schools’ competition prize winners

On Friday 13 June, over 1700 pupils swapped their school shoes for wellington boots and visited farms across Northern Ireland for the Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend dedicated schools’ day.

Pupils got hands-on with farm life, met animals, and learned all about the ‘farm to fork’ journey in a fun and interactive way, enhancing the pupil’s knowledge on where their food comes from and the farmers all important role in contributing to the life at least three times a day.

    Pictured at CAFRE Enniskillen campus is UFU communications officer and BOIOFW schools’ coordinator Lynsay Beattie and Niall Hilley from Edwards Primary School who was first place in the Foundation (Primary 1 and Primary 2) category. Niall also received the ‘Jennifer Hawkes perpetual trophy’, awarded to the best overall UFU schools’ competition entry, in memory of the late Jennifer Hawkes’ contribution and enthusiasm for the school’s competition and Open Farm Weekend initiative.
