UFU recognises top cereal growers of 2024

The Ulster Farmers’ Union along with sponsors of the UFU cereals competition, held their annual awards ceremony in the Dunadry Hotel and Gardens on Tuesday 12 November. The event paid recognition to the first-class growers situated in Northern Ireland.

Winners of the winter wheat, winter barley, spring barley and oats categories joined UFU deputy president Glenn Cuddy, judges and representatives from the competition sponsors BASF, Bayer CropScience, Clarendon Agri-care, Fane Valley, Origin NI and Syngenta to celebrate the competitions’ success.

The 2024 winners and runners up in the UFU cereal competitions are:

Spring barley
 Sponsor Fane Valley and Bayer

  • 1st place: Johnny Hamilton
  • 2nd place: Sam Long
  • 3rd place: Mark and Paul Russell

Winter barley
Sponsor – Clarendon Agri care and Bayer

UFU deputy president Glenn Cuddy said, “The UFU cereals competition is always a highlight in the annual agricultural calendar, giving us the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the first-class growers we have here in NI. We are proud to host competitions such as this for our members and would like to congratulate all the winners for their hard work and effort in producing high-quality crops.

Huge thanks also go to our competition sponsors BASF, Bayer CropScience, Clarendon Agri-care, Fane Valley, Origin NI and Syngenta, who support and promote the UFU’s cereals competition.”

The UFU would also like to acknowledge the dedication and hard work that the UFU seeds and cereals committee put into organising the competition and thank the UFU group managers for their continued support in encouraging members to participate in the competitions.
