UFU MPI: 33.67ppl (was 32.68ppl) – Despite a slight 0.7% slip in the GDT All Product Index in New Zealand, positive signals remain for dairy commodity prices. Dutch butter prices up €470/tonne to €5350 in the last three weeks. Plus, whole milk powder up €200 to €3650/tonne since the last MPI calculation. Mild cheddar prices are at last moving upwards. The fact that milk volumes are tightening, gouda is now at a considerable premium to cheddar and cheesemakers are selling spot milk instead of making cheddar, means the situation is changing for the better and British mild cheddar is up £100 to £3300 this week.
