
Clement Lynch is a full-time, hill sheep farmer from Park, near Claudy Co, Derry. The farm is in a severely disadvantaged area (SDA) in the Sperrin Mountains. Clement is a member of the Northern Ireland (NI) sheep programme, and his farm is a sheep technology demonstration farm.
Clement has been a member of the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) throughout his farming life which is in excess 40 years. He has always believed that the UFU has played an important role in representing all agriculture sectors in NI. Clement has served as chairperson of the Northwest Derry Group and is currently vice chairperson of the hill farming committee.
At present, the hill farming committee are striving to influence policy makers regarding livestock being part of a new future environmental policy where hills can accommodate livestock as well as sequestering carbon. The committee are also working with the beef and lamb committee and other interested groups, to secure funding for the sheep sector in the future agricultural policy proposals for NI.
