Review farm security in the lead up to Christmas

The Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) recommends taking time to review farm security in the lead up to Christmas. Farm machinery and other items can be targeted by thieves and ‘stole to order’ as Christmas presents. The most common item is usually farm quads.

To protect your farm:

· Keep machinery and tools out of sight when not in use;

· Always remove the key when vehicles are not in use;

· Install tracker on machinery and ensure subscription is active. UFU members can avail of 30% discount on Track Kit and benefit from discount on their NFU Mutual Insurance when a tracker is installed;

· Mark or stamp items with post code or other distinguishing mark.

If you are a victim of crime or if you see suspicious activity, it is important to report it.

Contact the PSNI – 999 in an emergency, 101 or online for non-emergencies. Alternatively, you can report anonymously through Crimestoppers.
