NI cereal grower’s ‘open for business’

Ulster Farmers’ Union Deputy President Barclay Bell has said that Northern Ireland’s cereal growers are ‘”open for business” and is encouraging livestock farmers to look to their cereal growing neighbours for feed as preparations for winter get under way.

Barclay Bell said; “This summer’s good weather has given a much needed boost to cereal crops and reports are that we can expect to see high yields and quality this year. The harvest is going well so far and our cereal farmers are ‘open for business’ and looking at all markets for their crops.

“The fodder crisis earlier this year will have depleted many livestock farmers’ forage and fodder reserves and many will already be starting to plan for this coming winter. I would encourage them to think about buying their feed direct from their cereal producing neighbours. This has the potential to be win-win for all involved, as prices at present are attractive and quality is looking good.”
