The UFU, along with the other UK farming unions, were successful in defeating EU proposals on tractor and trailer testing, which would have introduced new MOT-style testing for some large tractors and all livestock trailers. Obviously, tractor and trailer safety is very important but the proposals were costly, bureaucratic and unworkable and there was no evidence that additional testing would increase road safety.
