This event will explore the connections between farming, food, and public health through the view of Northern Ireland’s Food Strategy Framework and its three core pillars: health, environmental sustainability, and sustainable economic prosperity.
We are pleased to welcome Minette Batters who is joining remotely, who will share her perspectives on the relationship between agriculture and health, and the opportunities presented by the Framework. She will be joined in person by Catherine Hughes from the Nutrition Innovation Centre for Food and Health at Ulster University, and Dr Rebecca Orr, both GP and farmer. They will explore why improvements in diet are central to alleviating the pressures on the NHS and increasing a healthy lifespan.
The evening will conclude with a panel discussion, offering attendees the opportunity to engage directly with speakers and contribute to the conversation.
Bringing together voices from agriculture, medicine, nutrition, and policy, the evening will show how agricultural systems can support both environmental sustainability and improved public health across Northern Ireland.
