Edgar Carson – UFU pork and bacon chair

My name is Edgar Carson. I’m a third-generation farmer on a mixed farm (mainly pigs) and have been farming for 45 years since leaving Greenmount agricultural collage. I now farm in partnership with my son.

I have been involved with the Ulster Farmers’ Union for many years attending group meetings and being elected on to the pork and bacon committee. Being elected as chairman of the pork and bacon committee will allow me to give something back to the industry.

At this time, we’re working on a consultation on marketing and contracts between farmers and processors. I am also part of a pig core group which has been set up to work out a strategy to deal with a possible disease outbreak such as African Swine Fever. The pork and bacon committee has recently pushed to get a representative onto the board of Red Tractor which has been granted.
