Cows and TB – do you know how the disease affects a cow physically and mentally?

Cows are creatures of habit and the disturbance that TB testing creates for them individually can be extremely distressing. The farmer is required to present all of their animals for rigorous testing and examination on two separate days.

Sadly, the trauma doesn’t end there. In too many cases spread across generations, the dreaded results are the stuff of nightmares with one positive result being one too many, bringing the life of an animal (or animals) in their prime to an early end.

UFU deputy president William Irvine, recently lost one of his cattle to TB. In this video, he gives a sincere insight into intense TB testing and how it affects his animals. It stresses the long overdue and much needed TB eradication strategy, the implementation of which is the only way to protect Northern Ireland’s livestock.
