Driving Profitability, Delivering Sustainability
Productive and efficient beef systems are the main drivers to delivering an economic and environmentally sustainable beef industry. That will be the key focus of the upcoming beef conference hosted by the College of Agriculture, Food & Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) and the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) at Greenmount Campus on Wednesday 10th June.
Designed to support and strengthen Northern Ireland’s beef sector, the event will focus on the key drivers of productivity, efficiency, and sustainability within modern beef systems. The conference will bring together research, industry expertise, and practical application to support profitable and resilient beef enterprises.
Taking place across the Greenmount Campus and the CAFRE Beef and Sheep Centre, the event combines a technical morning session with an afternoon farm visit, offering attendees the opportunity to see best practice, research, and innovation applied within a working beef system.
There will be five key areas dedicated to genetics, the suckler cow, beef finishing, nutrition driven by forage-based systems, animal health and welfare and integrating biodiversity on the farm. Attendees will see how the best practice, research and innovation come together to deliver productive sustainable beef systems on the CAFRE farm and how they align and deliver against current sustainable agriculture policy.
