Beef and sheep webinars

The Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU), in partnership with the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) and key industry stakeholders, is hosting a beef and sheep webinar tailored for farmers across Northern Ireland. The two online events will provide practical insights, market updates and success stories from the field.

Each webinar will feature four expert speakers delivering 15-minute presentations, followed by a 30-minute interactive Q&A session.

The webinars which will be chaired by Glenn Cuddy, UFU deputy president, and will include a market update from LMCNI.

Micheal Calvert, CAFRE, will discuss efficiency measures from benchmarking. This will be focused on the key production traits that have the biggest impact on profitability and sustainability, and how the two are interlinked.

Eileen McCloskey, CAFRE, will cover key actions that have been taken to improve efficiency within the beef herds and sheep flocks. Herd and flock performance figures will be presented.

Each webinar will also have a farmer speaker specific to either beef or lamb.

As part of the beef webinar, a short update will be provided on the Beef Carbon Reduction Scheme, including changes to the slaughter age, reducing to 28 months from 1 January 2025. The importance of registering for the scheme to secure payments for animals slaughtered in 2024.
