Ulster Farmers’ Union take to the road on CAP

The Ulster Farmers' Union is taking to the road this January for our annual series of President’s Area meetings. This year the primary focus will be CAP implementation and members will have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have and also raise any other agriculture related issues for discussion that may be concerning them. The meetings start this week with the first being held in County Armagh on Thursday 9th January at the Armagh City Hotel at 8pm.
UFU President Harry Sinclair said; “I would like to encourage members to attend these meetings and I am looking forward to welcoming people along. The meetings offer the perfect opportunity to hear more detail about the progress being made in relation to CAP implementation and ask any questions you may have.
“In December, following an intense few weeks of discussion at UFU Group, Policy Committee, County and Executive levels, the Union officially finalised its position on the implementation of CAP in Northern Ireland. The aim is to take the EU framework deal agreed in June and make it workable for Northern Ireland. Our team at headquarters has been working tirelessly along with our committee members to unpick the new CAP deal to ensure that we get the implementation right for farmers; keeping it simple, minimising red tape and allowing for a smooth transition from the old to the new CAP. Despite the many discussions at all UFU levels, I’m sure there are still questions out there some for which we may not yet have be definitive answers to. However, these President’s Area meetings are the perfect place to raise your questions. Also, there will be an opportunity for members to raise other agriculture related issues for discussion that may be concerning them.”
The President Area meetings will continue throughout January. Dates include: County Armagh, Thursday 9th January at the Armagh City Hotel; County Fermanagh, Monday 13th January at the Killyhevlin Hotel Enniskillen; County Antrim, Tuesday 14th January at the Tullyglass Hotel, Ballymena; County Down, Wednesday 15th January at the La Mon Hotel, Belfast; County Tyrone Tuesday 21st January at the Silver Birch Hotel, Omagh; and County Derry/Londonderry, Wednesday 22nd January at the Roe Park Resort, Limavady. All meetings start at 8pm.
