UFU Watch – UFU lobby for simplification with EU cattle exports

UFU Watch

The Ulster Farmers’ Union is lobbying the EU Commission for simplification with the process for exporting cattle between EU Member States.

Recently the EU Commission changed the computer software used for completing EU Export Health Certificates.  These changes have created an additional bureaucratic and cost burden for calve exporters in Northern Ireland which has damaged their competitiveness on the EU market.

Since January 2014, Northern Ireland has exported in the region of 30,000 young cattle, with the majority of these going to Spain.  With supply and demand finely balanced in Northern Ireland it is important that this service continues to be provided to ensure that farmers have as many options as possible to market their cattle.
