UFU comment on tighter controls for sheep and goat tagging

Wednesday, 6 December, 2017

If covering DAERA’s announcement to introduce tighter controls for sheep and goat tagging, please consider the comment below from UFU beef and lamb chairman, Crosby Cleland.

UFU beef and lamb chairman, Crosby Cleland, says, “Sheep farmers are very aggrieved by the decision DAERA has taken to tighten controls for missing tags found at flock inspections.  This has been done without any consultation or advance explanation of the rationale for these changes. It makes you wonder whether this is a reflection of what DAERA is prepared do without the political checks and balances that come with normal governance.  Producers continue to work in a very strict regulatory environment, which puts untold stress on family farms and these latest changes by DAERA will only make this worse.”
