Support Local Northern Ireland Potatoes

Ulster Farmers’ Union Potato Policy Committee Chairman Adrian Jamison has highlighted that this is a timely opportunity for consumers to support their local potato producer.

Commenting recently Adrian Jamison said; “Potato producers have gone to great lengths to raise quality standards. With the mild spring and good weather recently, growing conditions have been ideal for local potato producers.  The harvesting of new season earlies is now in full swing with Queens and other second earlies being of plentiful supply. There will be no need for any more foreign imports.  With increased high input costs, we now need the support of merchants, packers, retailers and consumers to source quality local potatoes to help safeguard potato enterprises across Northern Ireland.  Strong marketing of a top quality crop is essential and this needs to attract and reward growers with a fair price.”

The UFU Potato Policy Committee believe that sourcing local quality potatoes will give consumers value for money and an enjoyable eating experience
