New agri vehicles on the road booklet launched

The Ulster Farmers’ Union Legislation Policy Committee has produced a new advisory booklet on the law surrounding agricultural vehicles entitled “Agriculture and the Public Roads” with generous support from First Trust Bank. Other supporters include CAFRE, LANTRA Awards, Northern Ireland Environment Agency, PSNI, Driver & Vehicle Agency, the Health & Safety Executive NI and HMRC.

Information within the booklet will range from licensing farm vehicles, to trailer towing restrictions and includes an enhanced section on operational and road safety.

UFU President Ian Marshall said; “The UFU’s Legislation Policy Committee has been working hard over the past few months on the latest version of our booklet. We want to ensure that members have an up-to-date and handy reference guide which helps to distil down the vast amount of legislation involved with agri-vehicles, their implements and loads.”

Chairman of the UFU Legislation Policy Committee Bailie Thompson added; “The guide, now in its third edition, has proved to be a vital resource for agricultural vehicle owners and other relevant bodies. As with previous editions, it has been developed by farmers for farmers and we would encourage all farmers ensure they pick up a copy of it. We have overhauled the format of the booklet in an attempt to make it easier to follow and more systematic and I hope that readers find it to be so.”

Eoin Donnelly, Agri Manager First Trust Bank said; “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Ulster Farmers’ Union ‘Agriculture and the Public Roads’ advisory booklet.  Vehicle and road safety is of paramount importance to farmers and agri-businesses and the information contained within the booklet is a handy guide to all those with agricultural vehicles.”

The Guide is available from UFU Headquarters and Group Offices. The Guide is free to Union members and £10 to non-members.
