Love Lamb Week 2019 roundup
Saturday, 31 August, 2019
Today marks the final day of Love Lamb Week 2019. The Ulster Farmers’ Union is supporting the UK-wide campaign and throughout the week, shared easy to follow lamb recipes that consumers can make in the comfort of their own home and promoted the numerous health benefits of eating Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assured lamb, which is high in nutrients. The UFU provided an insight into how lamb production benefits the environment as sheep can graze areas that are unsuitable to grow crops and are not accessible to other livestock, helping us to maintain our carbon sinks by consuming and converting grass.
Yesterday, the UFU with the support of LMC and local farmers, greeted members of the general public at Belfast City Hall where they held a cooking demonstration and sampling experience. Preparing a mix of recipes on the day, the cooking demonstrator highlighted the versatility of lamb and those in the area got the opportunity to experience the great taste of Northern Irish lamb first-hand while our farmers gave them an insight into lamb production.
Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC), held retail sampling events in stores across NI. Our farmers attended the events which took place from Thursday – Saturday. They distributed lamb samples to the general public while they were shopping and answered any questions they had. LMC also held a cookery demonstration and sampling event at Victoria Square where they were joined by U105.
The UFU would like to thank everyone who supported Love Lamb Week by sharing social media content and attending events that told place throughout the week.
