Key player in obtaining PGI status for the Armagh Bramley Apple & Comber Potato

Updated 22/04/15

The Ulster Farmers' Union has worked hard alongside Northern Ireland’s growers to secure PGI status for both Armagh Bramley Apples and the Comber Potato. PGI status, which stands for ‘Protected Geographical Indication’, covers agricultural products and foodstuffs closely linked to a geographical region. It protects product names from misuse and imitation and can help consumers easily identify a particular quality food item.

Securing PGI status for both the Armagh Bramley Apple and the Comber Potato offers growers, and the industry as a whole, a unique marketing tool and is a major success for the NI agri-food industry.
