Farmers need to check withdrawal periods

Thursday, 14 January, 2021

The Ulster Farmers’ Union is reminding famers about the importance of checking the withdrawal periods of the medicines/products they are using on livestock. The withdrawal period refers to the period of time after the medicine has been given to an animal, that must pass before the animal or foodstuffs from the animal can enter the food chain.

Despite farmers being familiar with the products they regularly use, these need to be checked to ensure compliance with quality assurance schemes/food chain legislation. Farmers should check the withdrawal period every time they purchase a medicine.  These withdrawal periods can change at any stage, and it is essential that farmers pay regular attention to this before administering products to animals.
