2014 Agronomy and Business Management Conference for Arable Growers

UFU Watch

Plans are progressing for the 2014 Agronomy and Business Management Conference for Arable Growers on Tuesday 21st January 2014 at Greenmount Campus, Antrim.  UFU Senior Policy Officer for Arable and Horticulture Patricia Erwin met recently with local farmer James Wray who will be speaking at the conference to discuss how the arable sector will meet the challenges of CAP reform and optimise opportunities going forward.

With much of the implementation detail still an unknown at a regional level this has added to the sectors frustrations. Greening requirements and access to arable land (conacre) are two areas of high priority needing to be clarified.  These unresolved issues are destined to bring short, medium and longer term challenges to the sector.

Speaking about the upcoming conference James said; “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to speak at the upcoming conference in January.  I plan to share with other arable growers the vision I have for my arable farm and how best, with the limited amount of factual information available to-date, I can plan for my future potato and cereal enterprises.”
