WALKERS / ANGLERS ACCESSING FARMS
Several UFU members have been approached by members of the public, seeking permission to use their laneway for a walking route during the COVID-19 outbreak. The COVID-19 virus can live on metal gates etc for up to three days and due to the risk of transmission associated with this, farmers have been advised not to allow anyone to use their land as an exercise route. It is vital that both farmers and members of the public take this guidance on board to protect themselves and their families from the illness.
All DAERA angling waters are now closed and this is being supported by NI Water. Farmers should also consider preventing anglers access to land in line with the above.
The UFU have prepared a poster for those walking in the countryside click here.
Dogs in the Countryside
The UFU has issued press statements and information articles on social media urging dog owners to be reponsible when out walking in the countryside. Farmers should report all incidences of dog worrying to the Dog Wardens based in the local Council. For more information and contact details click here.
