What about UFU meetings?

All UFU meetings have been suspended for the foreseeable future. UFU policy chairmen, presidential team and headquarter staff will hold a weekly teleconference to discuss the current situation. Policy Committees are also meeting via video call when required.

UFU Annual General Meeting

The Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) Executive Committee was due to take place in April 2020 and the UFU had agreed that the current presidential team consisting of UFU President Ivor Ferguson and Deputy Presidents Victor Chesnutt and David Brown, would remain in office for a further three-month period until 31 July 2020.

In order to elect a new Presidential team, the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) is proposing to hold a drive-in annual general meeting (AGM) before the end of July 2020.

The proposal, which is based on current Government guidelines and will be subject to further unlocking relaxations approved by the NI Executive, is to stage the AGM at Balmoral Park Lisburn, with large screens, social distancing and people taking part from their cars. This will provide the usual opportunity for our deputy president candidates to speak directly to members before the election takes place. All the proposed plans are built around creating an event that will keep all involved safe but also allow the Union to get on with the preparation for the busy times ahead

All current group and county officeholders will also remain in place until such time as the main UFU Annual General Meeting has been held.

How are UFU keeping up to date with COVID-19 information?

UFU representatives are taking part in weekly teleconferences with DAERA and agri-food representatives.  At these meetings the UFU is raising key concerns and COVID-19 issues impacting on farmers and is lobbing for appropriate changes and support. If any member has any issue related to COVID-19 that you would like us to raise at one of these meetings, please contact UFU HQ or email info@ufuhq.com.
