Successfully lobbied for the creation and appointment of a Groceries Code Adjudicator

Updated 24/04/15

For many years the UFU has been fighting for fairness in the supply chain and has lobbied intensely, along with the other UK farming unions, for the creation of a body that would redress the power imbalance between producers and large supermarket retailers. For years small suppliers feared challenging big retailers in case they were delisted, the creation of the Groceries Code Adjudicator seeks to address this, along with questionable practices in the supply chain, and to help ensure suppliers are treated fairly.

In January 2013, Christine Tacon was officially appointed as the UK’s first Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA). Anyone who feels they are being mistreated by a retailer can contact the GCA to raise an issue.
