The Ulster Farmers’ Union has welcomed the start of payments being made under the 2010 Less Favoured Area Compensatory Allowances Scheme.
UFU Deputy President Harry Sinclair comments; “This is a positive outcome following active lobbying by the UFU last year over more favourable exchange rates. This secured not only a £3.3 million historic back payment but also a £4.23 million boost for the LFA claims made in 2009.
“At the outset, it appeared as though SDA claimants would initially be excluded from receiving this increase going forward but we managed to ensure that this exchange rate benefit was applied to SDA as well as DA applicants.”
